Educational Purpose

Annuity Nest Egg is an educational website and content platform. Its purpose is to help consumers understand retirement income options, annuity contract features, and the questions they should consider before making financial decisions.

Nothing on this website constitutes financial, legal, tax, investment, insurance, fiduciary, or suitability advice. The information presented is general in nature and may not be appropriate for your specific circumstances.

You should consult with qualified, licensed professionals including a financial advisor, tax professional, and legal counsel before making any decisions involving annuities, retirement accounts, rollovers, or insurance products.

Annuity Risk Disclosures

Annuities are insurance contracts, not bank deposits. They are not FDIC insured. All guarantees are subject to the claims-paying ability and financial strength of the issuing insurance company. No guarantee is absolute or risk-free.

Fixed indexed annuities carry caps, participation rates, spreads, or other crediting method limitations that may limit upside returns relative to the linked index. Indexed returns do not include dividends paid by index constituents.

Variable annuities involve investment risk, including potential loss of principal. Market conditions may cause account values to fluctuate. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Surrender charges apply to most fixed and indexed annuities during the surrender charge period, typically 5–10 years. Early withdrawals exceeding contract provisions may incur surrender charges and tax penalties. Withdrawals before age 59½ may be subject to a 10% IRS penalty.

Optional riders such as guaranteed lifetime income, death benefits, or long-term care features carry additional costs, terms, conditions, and limitations. Riders may not be available in all states or on all contracts.

Rollover Considerations

Rolling assets from a 401(k), IRA, or other qualified plan into an annuity involves trade-offs that should be carefully evaluated, including differences in fees, investment options, liquidity, creditor protections, tax treatment, and income features.

A direct trustee-to-trustee rollover is generally not a taxable event. An indirect rollover may trigger mandatory 20% federal tax withholding and requires completion within 60 days to avoid taxes and penalties.

401(k) plans may offer creditor protections under federal law (ERISA) that IRAs and annuities may not provide. Consult a legal professional about creditor protection in your specific situation.
